TLDR A new method using gentian violet and a protective spray can improve symmetry and reduce surgery time in hair restoration, but it's only effective for total hair loss, not diffuse hair loss or follow-up treatments.
A study conducted from May 2008 to September 2013 involved 54 men with frontal hair loss, aiming to develop a method for achieving symmetry in hair restoration surgery. The researchers used various stamps and inks to mark recipient sites for hair transplantation, finding that a 3% alcoholic solution of gentian violet (GV) coated with a protective spray film was the most effective. This method improved the symmetry of frontal hair and reduced surgery time, but was only effective in areas of total alopecia and not suitable for diffuse alopecia or subsequent treatment sessions. The marking also enhanced the surgical team's training, leading to a better understanding of how to transplant the same number of follicular units on both sides of the frontal region.
