TLDR Proper nutrition can help balance the immune system and reduce allergies.
Malnutrition, including deficiencies in proteins, minerals, and vitamins, is prevalent in individuals with allergic conditions such as dermatitis, food allergies, rhinitis, and asthma. These deficiencies promote Th2 inflammation, leading to allergic sensitization. Adequate micronutrient supply supports immune cells with regulatory phenotypes, while deficiencies mimic infections, reducing nutrient absorption. The review discusses the roles of allergenic proteins, iron, and vitamin A, emphasizing their reduced bioavailability during inflammation and the need for dietary strategies to enhance absorption. Allergens often act as nutrient binders, influencing immune responses; in nutrient-rich conditions, they can support immune health by providing nutrients to immune cells.
