TLDR Soil phosphorus is key for maize phosphorus uptake.
The study investigated the effects of tillage and soil phosphorus levels on maize root length density and mycorrhizal infection. It was found that reduced tillage increased root length density and mycorrhizal infection compared to conventional tillage. Additionally, higher soil phosphorus levels decreased mycorrhizal infection, suggesting that phosphorus availability influenced the symbiotic relationship between maize roots and mycorrhizal fungi. These findings highlighted the importance of tillage practices and soil nutrient management in optimizing root development and mycorrhizal associations in maize cultivation.
