TLDR Obesity is linked to more severe lower urinary tract symptoms.
The study aimed to compare lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and prostatic anatomical characteristics in obese patients. Conducted on 537 patients, 100 met the inclusion criteria with a mean age of 68.73 years and a mean BMI of 32.62. The International Prostatic Symptom Score (IPSS) was used to evaluate LUTS, showing significant differences between patients with BMI 30-34.9 and BMI 35-39. Severe symptoms were more prevalent in the higher BMI group (17.6% vs. 3.6%). However, no significant association was found between prostatic volume and BMI. The study concluded a positive association between obesity and severe obesity with LUTS.
