This case report details the personal and professional journey of a physician diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) at age 16. Initial symptoms included rash, fatigue, and pancytopenia, leading to intensive immunosuppression with significant side effects. Over time, treatment was adjusted to low-dose prednisone and hydroxychloroquine, allowing the individual to pursue a medical career. Despite challenges such as joint pain and severe neutropenia, participation in a Belimumab study provided symptom relief. However, kidney function deteriorated, resulting in a diagnosis of class III lupus nephritis, managed with mycophenolate and other medications. The dual perspective as both patient and doctor enhanced the individual's understanding of SLE's impact on life and career, fostering a holistic approach to patient care.
