TLDR Appropriate zinc levels may help prevent hair loss in university students.
The study investigated the prevalence of zinc deficiency among university students and its association with hair loss and other health issues. The results showed that 33% of participants had low zinc levels, while 34.7% had higher than normal levels. Both low and high zinc statuses were significantly associated with hair loss (p<0.0001), but not with other health outcomes like diarrhea, acne, or weight loss. The study also found that a healthy diet score was not significantly different across zinc status categories and did not correlate with the health outcomes measured. The conclusion drawn was that maintaining appropriate zinc intake and serum zinc concentration may help prevent hair loss.
