TLDR A 16-year-old boy's arm hair grew more after wearing a splint, but it returned to normal in 8 months.
A 16-year-old boy developed localized acquired hypertrichosis on his left forearm and hand after wearing a splint for 4 weeks following surgery for injuries from a fall. The increased hair growth was observed upon splint removal and gradually returned to normal over 8 months. This case was notable as the first reported instance of such a condition in the pediatric age group, suggesting that hypertrichosis from splint application might be more common than previously recognized. The condition was likely caused by chronic irritation, friction, inflammation, heat, or cutaneous hyperemia and was typically transient.
