TLDR Osteoporotic postmenopausal Sudanese women have a high risk of cardiovascular disease.
The study assessed the relationship between lipid profiles, atherogenic index of plasma (AIP), and anthropometric measurements in 300 osteoporotic postmenopausal Sudanese women, revealing a 36.7% prevalence of osteoporosis. It found that many women with normal bone mineral density (BMD) experienced obesity, and a significant portion of osteoporotic women had lipid abnormalities, such as hypercholesterolemia and hypo-HDL-C. A notable 36.4% of osteoporotic women had a medium to high risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) based on their AIPs. The study highlighted an inverse correlation between age and HDL-C and a positive association between AIP and total cholesterol. It concluded that osteoporosis was prevalent among these women, who were at increased risk for CVD, emphasizing the need for public education and prevention strategies.
