TLDR Laser therapy improved surgical scar healing in dogs.
The study titled "Laser Therapy for Incision Healing in 9 Dogs" investigated the effects of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) on surgical incision healing in 9 dogs with intervertebral disc disease (IVDD). The results showed that daily application of 8 J/cm² laser therapy for 7 days significantly improved the rate and cosmetic appearance of incision healing compared to the control group. Treated dogs exhibited reduced inflammation, faster tissue regeneration, and less scarring, with significant improvements noted from day 5 through day 21. Despite the small sample size, the findings suggested that LLLT could be a valuable adjunct treatment for enhancing surgical wound healing in veterinary practice.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

Treatments for hair loss, including finasteride, dutasteride, minoxidil, ketoconazole, microneedling, and low level laser light therapy, which aim to reduce DHT production, increase cell absorption and blood flow, and stimulate epidermal stem cells. It also stresses the importance of patience when using these treatments.

Scalp tension from the occipitalis muscle is theorized to contribute to hair loss, but most believe DHT and genetics are the main causes. Treatments like finasteride and minoxidil are considered more effective than addressing scalp tension.
