TLDR People with a family history of hair loss are more likely to experience it, and the severity of hair loss is linked to insulin resistance. The connection between early hair loss and oxidative stress needs more investigation.
In 2017, a study involving 50 male patients with androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and 30 males without AGA found no significant correlation between AGA and ischemia-modified albumin (IMA), a biomarker indicating ischemia and oxidative stress. However, a family history of alopecia was significantly more common in the AGA group, and there was a positive correlation between AGA stage and insulin resistance. The study concluded that AGA was more frequent in individuals with a family history of alopecia and that AGA stage positively correlated with insulin resistance. The study also suggested that further research is needed to clarify the relationship between early onset AGA and oxidative stress.
