TLDR Finasteride may help reduce inappropriate sexual behaviors in dementia patients with prostate issues.
This study evaluated the effects of finasteride on inappropriate sexual behaviors (ISBs) in 11 male patients with vascular dementia and benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH). After 8 weeks of treatment, ISBs disappeared in six patients, and two had a recurrence of symptoms that resolved with continued treatment. No adverse events were reported. Finasteride could be a promising option to treat ISBs in patients with VaD and underlying BPH.
