TLDR Improving iron levels can help reduce hair loss in females.
The study investigated the relationship between iron deficiency and hair loss in females aged 10-45 in Qom Province, Iran. It involved 2,200 participants in a cross-sectional study and 410 in a case-control study. Results showed that the median serum ferritin level was lower in females with telogen effluvium (18.7µg/L) compared to controls (22.1µg/L), with a significant number of cases having ferritin levels below 15µg/L. Hair loss was prevalent, affecting 53.7% of participants, and was associated with factors like older age, weight, being a housekeeper, and smoking. The study concluded that iron deficiency was linked to hair loss, recommending improved nutrition and iron supplementation to address this issue.
