<i>Peperomia pellucida</i>'s Ingredients, Antioxidant Properties, and Safe Usage as Food and Herbal Medicine

Peperomia pellucida has been traditionally used as a vegetable and herbal medicine, and this study confirms its safety and potential health benefits. The plant contains volatile compounds and is rich in antioxidants like polyphenols, tannins, flavonoids, saponins, alkaloids, and terpenoids. It demonstrated significant antioxidative properties by nearly doubling the lifespan of Drosophila under oxidative stress. Additionally, no acute or chronic toxicity was observed in mice, as evidenced by normal blood parameters and liver function. These findings suggest that P. pellucida is safe for consumption and its bioactive ingredients can be utilized in functional foods and pharmaceuticals.
