TLDR Higher iodine levels in children's hair may help cure tinea capitis during puberty.
The study investigated the potential relationship between iodine concentration in children's hair and the spontaneous cure of tinea capitis at puberty. It was prompted by findings that orally administered potassium iodide had a curative effect on some cases of tinea capitis, although the mechanism was unclear. The research aimed to explore whether changes in iodine levels in hair could be linked to the natural resolution of the condition during puberty.
