TLDR Skin lesions help identify TCM syndromes in alopecia areata.
This study investigates the relationship between skin lesions and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) syndrome differentiation in alopecia areata using dermatoscopy. The research involved examining patients with alopecia areata to identify dermatoscopic signs such as yellow dots, white dots, exclamation mark hair, and vascular signs. The results showed that vascular signs were significantly associated with alopecia areata, exclamation mark hair with Qi-blood deficiency, and white dots with liver and kidney deficiency, all with statistical significance (P < 0.05). However, the yellow dot syndrome did not show a significant association (P > 0.05). The study concludes that specific skin lesions can aid in diagnosing different TCM syndromes related to alopecia areata.
