TLDR The Accu-Chek FlexLink Plus and Accu-Chek LinkAssist Plus make insulin pump use safer, simpler, and more comfortable.
In 2010, Roche Diagnostics launched Accu-Chek FlexLink Plus, the first self-retracting needle catheter for insulin pump therapy, along with its accessory, Accu-Chek LinkAssist Plus, designed for safer and more intuitive catheter insertion. A clinical study conducted in 2008 found that 89% of diabetic patients favored the current Accu-Chek FlexLink system for its good tolerance and easy connection/disconnection. The Accu-Chek LinkAssist insertion device was reported to allow nearly painless insertion for 95% of patients and reduced insertion failures by threefold. The self-retracting needle of Accu-Chek FlexLink Plus addresses patient apprehensions about catheter placement, retracts automatically after insertion, and is especially suitable for children due to its less bulky design and adhesive that minimizes irritation risks. Accu-Chek LinkAssist Plus offers improved handling for quick and safe guided insertion. These new devices, available since mid-September 2010, aim to provide diabetic patients and healthcare professionals with increased safety, simplicity, and comfort in insulin pump use.
