TLDR Human hair protein patterns are inherited genetically.
The study investigated the inheritance of electrophoretic phenotypes of human hair using a one-dimensional SDS electrophoresis method for low sulfur proteins, developed by Gerhard in 1987. The research involved analyzing hair samples from 5 families, each spanning 3 to 4 generations and comprising 6 to 56 members. Hair fragments were treated with a solution containing 50 mM DTT, 8 M urea, and 2% SDS, and the polypeptides were stained with CBB-R 250. The study aimed to understand the genetic variability in hair protein electrophoretic patterns across different family members.
