TLDR Serum-free mediums with VEGF and EGF boost goat hair follicle growth best.
The study investigated the effects of different culture mediums on goat hair follicles in vitro, using a Jining Grey Goat's hair follicle. It compared serum-free Williams E, serum-free DMEM, and DMEM with 10% fetal calf serum (FCS), each with varying concentrations of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and epidermal growth factor (EGF). Results indicated that hair follicles grew well in all 9 tested mediums, but those in serum-free mediums exhibited faster growth than those in mediums with 10% serum. Additionally, the presence of VEGF and EGF significantly enhanced growth rates compared to mediums lacking these growth factors.
