TLDR Tofacitinib works well for treating alopecia areata, especially when combined with corticosteroids, but is less effective if the disease has lasted over 2 years.
Tofacitinib was found to be an effective treatment for patients with moderate-to-severe alopecia areata (AA), showing better tolerance compared to systemic corticosteroids (SCs). The combination of tofacitinib and SCs potentially offered higher efficacy than SCs alone. However, the treatment's efficacy significantly decreased in patients who had been experiencing a current episode of the disease for more than 2 years.
