TLDR 3% hydrogen peroxide does not harm hair graft survival compared to saline.
The study conducted from April 2001 to July 2002 on five male Korean patients with male pattern alopecia aimed to evaluate the impact of 3% hydrogen peroxide on hair graft survival rates compared to normal saline. With 50 follicular units grafted onto two templates per patient and treated with either saline or hydrogen peroxide, the survival rates were measured at 3 and 10 months post-transplantation. The results indicated no significant difference in graft survival between the two treatments. Despite the small sample size, the study suggests that 3% hydrogen peroxide does not negatively affect hair graft survival during hair restoration surgery. Further research with more participants is recommended to confirm these findings. Dr. Dow Stough's commentary recognizes the study's contribution to understanding the role of hydrogen peroxide in hair transplantation.
