TLDR A boy with long QT syndrome was treated successfully, highlighting the need for careful evaluation of chest pain in children for heart conditions like LQTS.
An 18-month-old girl presented with a 6-month history of intermittent fevers, weight loss, and mild respiratory distress. Despite treatment with antibiotics, her symptoms and radiographic findings worsened. She had no significant medical history or exposure risks. Physical examination revealed low weight, mild respiratory distress, and bilateral crackles without other significant findings. Laboratory results showed a normal white blood cell count and normal blood gas values. The case highlighted the challenges in diagnosing persistent respiratory symptoms in young children.
