TLDR Adding human hair fibers to soft soil makes it stronger and prevents cracking.
In 2016, researchers Prakash Patil and Harini H. N. conducted a study using Human Hair Fiber (HHF) as a reinforcement to increase the subgrade strength of soft clayey soil. HHF, a natural non-biodegradable waste material, was used in varying percentages and tested for Unconfined Compressive Strength and CBR. The fibers used had an average length of 20mm. The results showed that the strength of the soil significantly increased with the addition of HHF, and it also prevented the sample from cracking.
