TLDR Better diagnosis and control of thallium poisoning are needed to prevent severe outcomes.
The study addresses the rising cases of acute thallium (Tl) poisoning in Ukraine, linked to the online availability of Tl compounds. It aims to enhance differential diagnosis through various analyses, identifying early symptoms like gastrointestinal issues, painful paresthesias, and skin pigmentation. The research emphasizes the importance of prompt toxicological tests and antidote treatment, especially due to the increased risk of Tl use in terrorism during wartime. The authors advocate for stricter regulation of Tl compounds and the creation of an antidote reserve.
