    The study found that type III collagen was significantly more present in the dermis of recovering traumatic skin in guinea pigs compared to normal skin, using immunohistochemical methods. This increase was observed in skin that had been burnt, incised, and frozen. Additionally, some hair follicle cortical cells in the recovering skin were deeply stained, indicating that type III collagen might be crucial in supporting the extracellular matrix and stabilizing the tissue during recovery. The findings suggested that after skin injury, hair follicle cortical cells secreted type III collagen, potentially helping to support and stabilize the remaining normal hair roots.
