TLDR Human hair and nail proteins are unlikely to cause allergic reactions.
The study investigated the immunogenicity of hard keratins and related proteins from mouse and human hair and nails using BALB/c mice. It found that the antibody response to mouse hair proteins was about 1% compared to the response to human hair and nail proteins. Immunoblot analysis revealed species specificity and different antigenic properties for keratins and matrix proteins. These findings suggested that human proteins could serve as biocompatible materials, unlikely to cause rejection or allergic reactions.
