TLDR Two men experienced hair regrowth while being treated with immune globulin for other health issues, but there were also side effects.
In a case series, two men, aged 43 and 80, experienced significant hair regrowth on their arms and scalp while being treated with intravenous immune globulin (IVIG) for unrelated neurological conditions. The 43-year-old, who had androgenic alopecia (AGA) and was receiving IVIG for idiopathic chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy, also developed self-limiting haemolytic anaemia after the second dose of IVIG. The 80-year-old was being treated for refractory myasthenia gravis and noted hair regrowth after two months of IVIG treatment, which continued over the course of his treatment. Both cases demonstrated increased density of scalp hair over a period of two to three months. Despite the positive effect on hair growth, the authors caution about the invasive nature of IVIG and the potential for serious adverse effects such as thrombosis and haemolytic anaemia. The patients eventually lost to follow-up, and the outcomes were not fully stated.
