TLDR Imiquimod 5% cream reduced equine sarcoids in most cases.
This pilot study evaluated the efficacy of imiquimod 5% cream as a topical treatment for equine sarcoids in 15 horses with 19 tumours. The treatment was applied three times a week for up to 32 weeks. Of the 15 tumours that completed the study, 80% showed more than a 75% reduction in size, and 60% completely resolved within 8 to 32 weeks. Adverse effects were generally limited to the tumour and adjacent areas. The study suggested that imiquimod could be a therapeutic option for equine sarcoids, but further research was needed to confirm these findings.
