TLDR Injecting patients' own PRP into their thyroid improved thyroid function and symptoms in most hypothyroidism cases.
In a study from January 1, 2021, 27 patients with hypothyroidism, including subclinical hypothyroidism and autoimmune thyroiditis, were treated with intrathyroidal injections of autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to investigate its effects on resident thyrocyte stem cells. Patients, aged between 20 and 70 years, received three PRP injections at 15-day intervals, after which they were monitored for one year. The PRP was obtained by centrifuging the patient's blood, which had been drawn after administration of intravenous Omega 3 fatty acids and ascorbic acid. The results showed that 25 out of 27 patients responded positively to the treatment, with significant decreases in serum TSH, anti TPO, and anti Tg antibody levels, and increases in T3 and T4 levels in cases of primary hypothyroidism. Additionally, patients reported improvements in symptoms such as lethargy, musculoskeletal pains, sleep, concentration, mood, dry skin, and hair loss, without any weight gain. No adverse events were reported during the follow-up period.
