TLDR Hyperthyroidism mostly affects young women and can cause heart issues, but these can improve with treatment.
The study conducted at Stanley Hospital from November 2013 to November 2014 with 60 participants found that hyperthyroidism was more prevalent in younger females, particularly in their third decade of life. Common symptoms included neck swelling, palpitations, and menstrual irregularities. The condition significantly affected cardiac activity, leading to systolic and diastolic dysfunction, pulmonary hypertension, and heart failure, although these cardiac changes were often asymptomatic and reversible upon returning to a euthyroid state. Echocardiography was highlighted as a crucial non-invasive tool for identifying and monitoring cardiac issues related to hyperthyroidism.
