TLDR The trichohyalin gene is located at chromosomal region 1q21 with other skin-related protein genes.
The study identified that the human trichohyalin gene, a key differentiation product in hard keratinizing tissues, was located at chromosomal region 1q21. This region also contained genes for other structural proteins involved in terminal differentiation in the epidermis, as well as several S-100 class calcium-binding proteins. The mapping was achieved using human-rodent somatic cell hybrids and fluorescent in situ hybridization.
