TLDR Most people in South India lack knowledge about managing COVID-19 at home.
The 2021 study surveyed 294 participants in South India to assess their understanding and practices regarding home-based management of COVID-19. The study found that while 72.4% knew that home-based management is recommended for mild COVID-19 cases, only 2% knew the correct duration of home isolation for a symptomatic patient. Additionally, only 6.5% were aware of all the signs and symptoms of mild COVID-19 and knew when home-based isolation was appropriate. Less than 35% knew the correct duration of hand washing with soap and water, and 17.4% and 32.7% were not confident in using a thermometer and pulse oximeter respectively. The study concluded that there is a significant lack of awareness and understanding of home-based COVID-19 management among the participants, suggesting the need for suitable training programs.
