TLDR Human-hair keratin artificial tendons are biocompatible and degrade well in rabbits.
The study investigated the degradation and biocompatibility of human-hair keratin artificial tendon (HHKAT) materials in rabbits. The materials were divided into groups Z, F, and O, with 12 rabbits used for implantation. Over 24 weeks, the F group showed complete absorption, the Z group showed little absorption, and the O group showed no absorption. Histologic analysis indicated that HHKAT and normal human hair did not cause significant inflammatory reactions, and tissue reactions decreased as HHKAT degraded. The study concluded that HHKAT had good biocompatibility and could degrade as required.
