TLDR Finasteride improved hidradenitis suppurativa in kids without side effects.
The article "Hidradenitis suppurativa in pediatric patients treated with finasteride: A case series" presents five cases of pediatric patients with hidradenitis suppurativa, a rare and debilitating condition for which no universally effective treatment has been developed. The patients were diagnosed between the ages of 6 and 11 years old and were treated with oral finasteride, which resulted in an overall improvement of the disease in all patients, with reduction of the frequency and intensity of the flares. No adverse effects were observed or reported during the treatment. The results achieved in this series support the use of finasteride for the treatment of this disease in pediatric patients. Further controlled, randomized studies are necessary to fully understand the role of this drug in the management of this disease.
