TLDR Hepatitis C can clear naturally in some people due to strong immune response, genetics, and limited exposure.
The paper reviewed the spontaneous clearance of the Hepatitis C virus (HCV), which occurred in about 20-30% of cases without treatment. It found that a competent immune response, linked to IL-28B genetic polymorphism, female gender, and young age, was crucial for virus elimination. Environmental factors like limited viral exposure also played a significant role. The study noted that these factors worked together to promote clearance, although the exact mechanisms were not fully understood. Factors such as the IL-28B CC genetic variant, certain ethnicities, jaundice history, and acute superinfection with other hepatitis viruses were highlighted as influential in this process.
