Cindy Khanh P. Nguyen, Meagan Alvarado, Jennifer Batisti
This document presents a case of a 29-year-old woman with chronic arsenic exposure leading to hepatic steatosis and acute liver injury. The patient exhibited symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and a range of neurological and systemic issues, including polyneuropathy and encephalopathy. Despite initial negative tests for heavy metals, elevated arsenic levels were found in hair and nail samples. The case highlights the association between arsenic toxicity and liver conditions like non-cirrhotic portal fibrosis and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, emphasizing the importance of recognizing metal toxicity in liver injury diagnosis and management.
