Health Canada: No Link Between Finasteride Use and Seizures

TLDR No link between finasteride and seizures found.

Health Canada conducted a safety review and found no link between the use of finasteride and an increased risk of seizures. While some animal studies suggested an increased risk, there was not enough evidence to demonstrate the same risk in patients treated with the drug. Health Canada has requested that manufacturers of Propecia and Proscar continue to provide information on this safety issue, and the agency will continue to monitor safety information relating to finasteride-containing products.

Dutasteride is less commonly prescribed for hair loss because it is not FDA-approved for this purpose, unlike finasteride, which is more accessible and preferred due to fewer side effects. Dutasteride may be more effective in reducing DHT but has a longer half-life and potentially more significant side effects.
