A 74-year-old woman experienced broken vertex scalp hairs due to chronic rubbing over 18 months. Light microscopy showed distal brush-like splitting of the 1–2 cm hairs. After 4 months of education and behavioral therapy to reduce rubbing, her hair re-grew without persistent abnormalities.
