TLDR Prompt diagnosis and treatment of hair tourniquet syndrome involving the uvula are crucial to prevent severe complications.
This case report describes a rare instance of hair tourniquet syndrome involving the uvula in a six-month-old female, caused by an upper airway foreign body. The patient exhibited increased agitation and was found to have a hair fiber constricting her uvula. After unsuccessful removal attempts in the emergency room, surgical intervention under general anesthesia was required. The hair fiber was removed without damaging the uvula, though some edema and engorgement were observed. The report underscores the importance of prompt diagnosis and treatment to prevent severe complications like strangulation and necrosis, and stresses the need for high suspicion in similar cases.
