TLDR A baby boy's toe was saved from damage caused by hair strangulation by quick surgical treatment.
Six years ago, a case study highlighted an 8-week-old male infant suffering from Hair Thread Tourniquet Syndrome (HTTS), a rare condition where a body part is strangled by human hair, potentially leading to tissue death or autoamputation if not treated. The infant's left middle toe was affected and was successfully treated by surgically removing the hair. The study stressed the need for quick recognition and treatment to save the affected tissue and aimed to raise awareness among medical professionals about HTTS to prevent negative outcomes and tissue death.
