TLDR High hair calcium levels are linked to low calcium intake and low bone density.
The study investigated the relationship between hair calcium concentration, calcium intake, and bone mineral density (BMD) in 55 women over 20 years old in Suwon, Korea. Participants were divided into quartiles based on hair calcium levels. It was found that women in the highest quartile of hair calcium concentration consumed significantly less calcium and had lower BMD and T-scores in the L1-4 vertebrae compared to other quartiles. This suggested that high hair calcium concentration was associated with low calcium intake and low BMD.
