TLDR Transplanting beard hair into a scalp wound after hair transplant surgery improves scar appearance and hair keeps its normal traits.
In a study involving 23 male patients with varying degrees of androgenic alopecia, beard hair was transplanted into the sutured donor wound shortly after a follicular unit hair transplant (FUT/FUHT) procedure. The aim was to assess the growth of the transplanted hair and the cosmetic improvement of the FUT donor wound. The results showed that the transplanted beard hair grew over the healed suture wound, making the scar less visible due to hair growth and reduced erythema. The transplanted beard hair maintained its original characteristics, such as color, curl, and caliber. The study concluded that transplanting beard, scalp, or body hair into the sutured strip wound on the same day as the donor closure provides better cosmetic results and does not alter the characteristics of the transplanted hair. Additionally, this method aids in better healing and reduced scar hypo-pigmentation.
