TLDR Glycine slows main root growth but boosts root hair growth in habanero peppers.
The study investigated the effects of amino acids on the root growth of habanero pepper seedlings. While L-glutamate and L-aspartate did not affect root growth, glycine inhibited primary root growth, stimulated root hair growth, and caused significant starch accumulation in the root apex. The involvement of ethylene in these responses was suggested by the use of an ethylene biosynthesis inhibitor and the evaluation of specific gene expression. These findings indicated that glycine might help plants adapt to nutrient fluctuations in the soil.
