TLDR Higher doses of glucocorticoids increase the risk of blood clots in asthma patients.
The study investigated the association between glucocorticoid use and the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in asthma patients aged 20–59 years using data from the United Kingdom's Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) from 1995 to 2015. It found that both current and systemic glucocorticoid use were linked to an increased risk of incident idiopathic VTE, with a dose-response relationship observed. This suggests that higher doses of glucocorticoids were associated with a greater risk of developing VTE in this population.
