TLDR Complete removal of large scalp nevi is recommended to prevent complications.
This case report detailed a 24-year-old woman with a giant congenital cerebriform pigmented nevus on her scalp, which had been present since birth and enlarged significantly over time. The nevus was characterized by deep cerebriform wrinkles and was diagnosed as a giant congenital intradermal nevus through pathological examination. The lesion was composed of nevus cells located in the dermis and subcutaneous tissues, interwoven with collagen fibers. Treatment involved complete resection of smaller nevi and staged excision with dermoplasty for larger areas. The patient experienced no complications during an 18-month follow-up. The report highlighted the rarity of such nevi and recommended radical resection, with staged excision for large nevi to avoid complications like scalp infection and poor blood perfusion.
