TLDR Surgical removal is advised for large congenital blue nevi due to rare cancer risk.
This case report described a 20-year-old Asian male with a large congenital blue nevus on the occipital scalp, presenting as cutis verticis gyrata, characterized by thick, brain-like skin folds and hyperpigmentation. The study aimed to raise awareness of the clinical and histopathologic features of cerebriform intradermal nevi and giant congenital blue nevi, emphasizing the importance of clinicopathologic correlation for accurate diagnosis. Surgical excision was recommended due to the potential for rare malignant transformation. The report highlighted the subjective and imprecise nature of the nomenclature for these tumors.
