Geriatric Dermatoses in Benghazi, Libya

    TLDR Most elderly patients in Benghazi have skin diseases, mainly fungal infections.
    The study conducted over one year at Jumhoria Hospital in Benghazi, Libya, involved 248 elderly patients aged 65 and above, revealing that 67% had skin diseases of infective etiology, with fungal infections being the most common at 49.6%. Xerosis was observed in 40% of patients, eczematous dermatitis in 27.8%, psoriasis in 7.7%, generalized pruritus in 6%, and a psychosomatic background in 3.2%. Malignant tumors were present in 2.4% of cases. This research provided valuable insights into the spectrum of dermatologic diseases among Libyan geriatric patients and was noted as the first study of its kind in Libya.
