Generalized trichorrhexis nodosa

TLDR The hair disorder was caused by abnormal protein formation, making hair easily damaged.
A case study from 1980 described a man with generalized trichorrhexis nodosa, a hair disorder. Electron histochemical studies indicated abnormal alpha-keratin chain formation in the hair cortex, particularly involving low cystine levels. This defect, along with multiple vacuoles in the endocuticle, was identified as the intrinsic cause that made the hair susceptible to damage from minor chemical and physical trauma.
