TLDR The gel combining minoxidil and Aloe vera could be an effective, non-irritating treatment for hair loss.
The study investigated a topical gel combining minoxidil and Aloe vera for treating alopecia, aiming to enhance the drug's contact time and concentration on the scalp. Various gel formulations were created using carbopol 940 and HPMC as thickeners, with Aloe vera added for its soothing and hair growth-promoting properties. The gels underwent evaluation for appearance, pH, spreadability, and skin irritation in albino rats. The results indicated that the formulation labeled F5, which included carbopol, HPMC, and Aloe vera, was optimal regarding stability, non-irritation, and ease of application. The study suggests that this gel could be an effective and moisturizing treatment for alopecia, potentially reducing the side effects commonly associated with minoxidil use, and offering a more efficacious therapeutic alternative.
