The document reviewed the potential of human placental extract (HPE) in treating osteoarthritis (OA) due to its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and growth stimulatory properties. HPE was found to have significant anti-inflammatory and regenerative effects both in vitro and in vivo, and it helped reduce cellular senescence and apoptosis by decreasing reactive oxidative species. A study indicated that HPE could reduce cartilage catabolic gene expression, suggesting its potential in attenuating OA. The review concluded that HPE might be a beneficial therapeutic for OA by promoting cartilage regeneration, but emphasized the need for more well-designed studies to further define its role in OA treatment.
