TLDR Onychopapilloma likely originates from the nail bed, not the nail matrix.
This study analyzed 11 cases of onychopapilloma to determine its origin by examining the expression patterns of hair-related and epithelial keratins. The results indicated that onychopapilloma likely originates from the nail bed rather than the nail matrix, as evidenced by the positive expression of HK31 and nail bed-related keratins (HK75, K6/K16) and the absence of hair-related keratins (HK34, HK85, HK86) in the nail bed. These findings provide insights into differentiating onychopapilloma from other nail bed tumors, highlighting the significance of the nail bed epithelium in its development.
